COVER STORY Our annual report on the largest-grossing businesses in Skagit County begins with an overview about which businesses fall into what categories. Because of ties at the end, there are actually 51 on the chart this year.
Where is your business? Starting with Valley Electric, a perennial winner as it grows farther afield with each year, and concluding with three venerable businesses, Dynes Farms, Seven Sisters and Valley Farm Center, here is a list of the Top 50 private companies and their rankings.
A quick study of the chart will show how many new-car dealerships are on the Top 50 list. Half of the Top 10 are dealerships and a total of eight make up the Top 25. These accounted for $400 million in gross sales last year, or nearly 29 percent of the total on the list.
BUSINESS PROFILES One of the Top 50 every year, international Aero manufacturers and repairs interior parts for commercial aircraft, primarily Boeing plans. Janet O’Mara toured the Bayview plant and talked with two executives.
Internationally known, SeaBear packages smoked salmon and other seafood for sale at its outlet store in Anacortes and several Made In Washington stores it owns and operates in the Seattle area. On the Top 50, it was started in 1957.
John Zografos and his wife, Antigoni, welcome breakfast, lunch and dinner guests to their Anacortes restaurant. The Olympia, at 2001 Commercial Ave., specializes in Greek and Italian food.
COMMUNITY REPORT Controversy surrounds the proposed Multimodal Transportation Center in downtown Mount Vernon. Nevertheless, Mayor Skye Richendrfer is moving forward on plans to break ground on the new train and bus depot and SKAT center this summer.
