Wick Made Citizen of Year by Realtors Don Wick, executive director of the Economic Development Association of Skagit County, recently became the Washington Association of Realtors’ Citizen of the Year. He was among a host of decision makers from around the state nominated for the coveted award, including three others from Skagit County: Jones Atterberry, Ron Wortham and Kendall Gentry, all Realtors themselves. The presentation was made during the state Realtors’ conference in Kennewick.
Late Marine Business Owner Given Cashman Award Maureen Dickson, who passed away last month after a battle with lung cancer, is the posthumous recipient of the prestigious Nellie Cashman Award, according to her son, Shawn Dickson. She was named as one of five finalists for the 2001 award, which honors a woman business owner in the Puget Sound region, shortly before her death at age 63 on Sept. 8 It was the second time Dickson had been named a finalist for the award. Last year, Diane Symms of Lombardi’s Cucinas in Ballard, Everett and Issaquah beat out Dickson and others. This year’s finalists included: Dickson; Wendy Edie, WRE Construction Inc.; Carol Nagy, Soft coverings; Alice Cunningham, Olympic Hot Tub Co; and Susan Bittner, Fryer-Knowles Inc. The award was inaugurated in 1982 to honor Cashman, a pioneer gold prospector, miner and business woman of the 19th century. Nominees are women business owners who have been responsible for the performance of their companies for at least the past three years. Dickson was the inspiration behind Cap Sante for more than nine years, following the death of her husband who founded the marine company in 1980.
Rampart Mechanical Co-owner Killed in Plane Crash Darron Ramey, general manager at Rampart Mechanical in Anacortes, was among three persons killed recently when their plane crashed on Decatur Island in the San Juans. He was 37. Rampart — the old Anacortes Refrigeration — was purchased in 1992 by Don Ramey and his three sons, Shannon, Darron and Todd. It specializes in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems and furnaces, hearth stoves, humidifies and similar needs for home and business. Darron was on a flight back from a construction project in the San Juans when the West Isle Air Cessna 172, piloted by Michael Laird, 56, of Graham, crashed on Decatur Island. The other passenger was Brett Evans, 39, of Coupeville. Rampart Mechanical is located on South March’s Point Road east of the Puget Sound Refining Co. West Isle Air is based in Anacortes.
Peoples Bank Moves Branch Managers Peoples Bank announced three of its branch managers have been assigned to different locations. Angie Ritchey, previously manager of the Sedro-Woolley branch, has accepted the position of Cordata branch manager in Bellingham. She joined Peoples Bank in 1996 and became manager in Sedro-Woolley in 1999. Meanwhile, Karen Poirier was assigned to the Sedro-Woolley manager’s position. She brings 15 years of experience to Peoples Bank, working with real estate loans and as an assistant bank manager. Poirier is also active in the community, assisting the Boys and Girls Club of Skagit County with fundraising programs and formerly serving on the local board of directors for the Institute of Financial Education for five years, including two years as president. Jan Armstrong, former manager of the Cordata branch, is now manager of the downtown Bellingham branch. Peoples Bank is a $400 million independent bank with 14 offices in Skagit, Whatcom and King counties and headquarters in Lynden.
Staff Additions at Synergy Salon Synergy Salon in Mount Vernon recently added three new members to its professional team. Michelle Morgan joined the staff as a nail technician and esthetician. Along with her eight years of experience in the two fields, she also has continued her education and specializes in artificial nails, spa manicures and pedicures, waxing services, and make-up consultations and application. Tracey Metz has been a hairstylist for 12 years and previously worked at Hair Masters as assistant manager. She also owned her own salon at one time. Steve Ostlander has been a hairstylist for 18 years. He recently moved to Mount Vernon from Seattle where he owned his own salon.
