Sharon Dillon

Her Honor Mayor Sharon Dillon of Sedro-Woolley has supported the Skagit business community for much of her adult life and owns auto-parts stores in Concrete, Darrington and her own town. In an interview with Dyas A. Lawson, she explains how important it’s been for her to combine her business acumen with running the county’s third-largest city.

The once-sleepy logging town of Sedro-Woolley, remarkably unchanged during its 100-plus years of history, is on the brink of an economic revival centered on tourism development. A town of many festivals, some still promoting its timber heritage, Sedro-Woolley continues to be a place to enjoy a summer’s day or a winter parade. And now it has a major park in the plans.

It’s never been a secret that Skagit County is a great place to retire to — and statistics show this to be true. It’s also a haven for those requiring assisted-living or other special care, with the strong growth of care centers of all kinds since the ’70s. The question is raised, however, whether we have enough of these centers now, even though the “boomer generation” is growing into them.
