Cover Story Three businessmen have set their sights high-tech in opening Mount Vernon’s first “smart park” in the eTech Center, located on Continental Place. One of the three, Paul Schweikert III, owns WebEKG, a well-wired software development firm, which became the center’s first major tenant. The others, John Ellis and Dan Mitzel, are renowned real estate developers in the area.
A former U.S. Marine Corps “techie” launched his sixth eBusiness last year and has since moved WebEKG to the new, fully digitalized eTech Center in Mount Vernon. Paul Schweikert III hopes to make his company a global power in software development for Fortune 1,000 businesses. He also is part owner in the center itself, offering partnerships to other eBusinesses that come along.
Anacortes is home to a number of interior designers who work farther afield. Writer Janet OÕMara visited two of them, Mary Rytand and Helen Coverdale. According to them, itÕs matching style with the individual when it comes to making homes comfortable and functional.
Michel Hanson of Action Physical Therapy knows her stuff, and she ought to — she’s “been there, done that” with her own rehabilitation. The licensed physical therapist specializes in outpatient orthopedic and sports therapy. Janet O’Mara stopped in to see her.
Remember Gateway in Sedro-Woolley? It’s now the Sauk Mt. Golf Course. New owners John and Gayle Lange have big plans, including an expansive housing development that will overlook the rolling links and provide views of, well, Sauk Mt. Heidi Thomas took a peek herself.
Despite the name, it’s no reflection on either the store or its owner, Jon Peterson, but more on what they sell. Plugs are wooden fishing lures, and Peterson has plenty. Stop at his La Conner shop and take a gander. He’s got more to lure you there than the name implies. |
