Write Design offers complete marketing package
The Write Design, formerly The Write Words, now makes it easier for local businesses to obtain custom marketing materials like websites, brochures, newsletters, flyers and ads. Thanks to a new menu of graphic design services, The Write Design has brought copywriting and design under one roof simplifying projects and making them more affordable.
Elizabeth Short, a Bellingham-based writer and editor with experience in design, originally focused her business on supplying content for brochures and websites in addition to other writing projects like press releases and ghostwriting. When clients began to request design services, too, Short recognized a niche.
“These days, writing and design are impossible to separate good marketing materials require both. But most service providers focus on just one or the other,” Short says. “I decided to break the mold and do it all. My clients have been very pleased with the results.”
WECU breaks ground on LEED-certified lending center
Whatcom Educational Credit Union broke ground on Tuesday, January 3, for their new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified Real Estate and Commercial Loan Center on Holly Street in Bellingham. It is the first privately funded LEED-certified project in Bellingham.
WECU’s new 9,000 square foot Lending Center will be 35% more energy efficient than a building constructed using conventional building practices. It will feature rain gardens and impervious paving that will help reduce storm-water runoff. The rain gardens will treat runoff, removing harmful pollutants. WECU will also install vegetated roofs to reduce and treat runoff and decrease cooling demands. The building will also feature lighting integration between daylight and electric lighting, a high efficiency mechanical system and an under-floor air distribution system to help make the building more energy efficient.
Honored guests attending the ground breaking included Mayor Mark Asmundson, County Executive Pete Kremen, Chamber of Commerce Chair Pat Rowe, Zervas Group Architects, Pearson Construction, WECU’s President/CEO Wayne Langei and Bellingham’s Christ the King Pastor Grant Fishbook.

Local entrepreneurslaunch L’Chic
Entrepreneurs May Lee and Alta Lomayma are proud to announce the launch of L’Chic, LLC, a jewelry importing company specializing in quality fresh water pearls and semiprecious gemstones. Based in Ferndale, Lee and Lomayma offer a wide selection of lariats, necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings and bridal jewelry.
After retiring from U.S. Customs (Lee) and Georgia-Pacific (Lomayma), the women started L’Chic in November to share their unique jewelry with others.
Rather than open a retail store, the entrepreneurs prefer taking their jewelry directly to their customers, featuring displays at area bazaars, open houses and businesses. By invitation, L’Chic also sets up displays in customers’ homes to share with friends just for fun or to plan for special occasions such as holidays and weddings..
