Escape spa adds staff, services
Ulrike Bartlett, owner of Escape Day Spa, has hired 3 new professionals and added unique new services, including application of permanent make-up and semi-permanent eyelash extensions.
Inga Chinell joined Escape Day Spa in April as a massage therapist from the Zazen Salon and Spa. She was trained at the Brenekke School of Massage and specializes in both seated or full-body massage, rehabilitating massage, hot stone massage, and body and skin treatments.
Botanist and massage therapist, Molly Langdon came to the spa early this year with 24 years as a massage and aroma therapist with her own line of organic skin care, Isla Flora Botanica.
Sunday Young, a recent graduate of Aesthetics Northwest of Bellevue, brings 17 years of customer service experience and specializes in facials and facial massage.

Haskell joins Rice Insurance
Troy Haskell joined Rice Insurance as a property and casualty agent. Haskell is a graduate of Sehome High School and of Central Washington University, where he earned a degree in business administration.
Tails-A-Wagging adds trainer
Laura Berger has joined the Tails-A-Wagging Staff as an Obedience Trainer. She brings with her 20 years of dog training experience. Although she teaches many different types of classes, her focus is on teaching puppies and young dogs.
Berger is an active member of the Chuckanut Dog Training Association, Puget Sound Labrador Retriever Club and the Labrador Retriever Club of Canada.

Louis Auto Glass adds Bright
Ken E. Bright has joined Louis Auto Glass as the new residential department manager. He will be responsible for continued development and growth of the business unit based in Bellingham.
Bright has experience in both the construction supply and temporary staffing industries. Past positions include president of Nu-Door in Lacey and branch manager for Labor Ready in Olympia and Everett.

Bayard now at Dutch Bakery
Kathi Bayard has returned to manage the cake-decorating department of Lynden Dutch Bakery. Bayard has three years of experience at the renowned Creative Cakes of Orange, Calif., serving clients such as the Ritz Carlton, the Richard Nixon Library, and Robert Schuller Ministries. After managing the cake department for Lynden Dutch Bakery from 1996 to 2001, she and her husband Ken spent time in Montana and California before returning to Lynden in late March.

Dunn opens law practice
Linda Dunn recently launched a new practice in downtown Bellingham. Originally from Alabama, she earned an undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama’s Culverhouse School of Accounting. Dunn graduated with her law degree from Gonzaga University’s law school in 2001 and later earned an LL. M. from the University of Miami School of Law. Upon returning to Washington, she was admitted to the Washington State Bar last June.

Stauffer joins Autobahn
Amy Stauffer joined the team at Keith Cox Autobahn in April. She is responsible for the general administration of the office, Internet operations and will wash and sell a Volkswagen or Audi as needed. Amy is a freelance photographer and most recently worked in the Child Development Center at WCC. She holds an Associate of Arts Degree and an Early Childhood Education Degree from Whatcom Community College.

Stewart Title adds four
Stewart Title recently added three members of their escrow department and a licensed closer.
Marlin DuBois is a new escrow officer. She comes from First American Title with six years of experience as a licensed closer (LPO - Limited Practice Officer) and 12 years with Horizon Bank as Assistant Vice President and LPO.
Cheryl Kenoyer has moved to Stewart Title as Escrow Assistant for Terry Steiner, LPO. Kenoyer comes to Stewart Title after one year of escrow experience with Chicago Title and four years at Semihamoo in their accounting department.
Barbara Stilwell joins Stewart Title’s commercial escrow team with 17 years of experience from Washington Mutual Bank as a licensed closer (LPO) and five years with SeaFirst Bank Commercial Loan Department. She moved to Bellingham nine years ago from Seattle to open the regional closing office for Washington Mutual.
Patrice Greguski is a new Stewart Title licensed closer (LPO) with 14 years experience. She started as a receptionist 20 years ago for Bellingham National Bank then moved to escrow assistant to Limited Practice Officer and then to Manager of Subsidiary Escrow Company for Whatcom State Bank. Greguski graduated with a degree in Paralegal Studies from Whatcom Community College. She also designs children’s clothes through her new company Lil’ Beach Angels.

KeyBank promotes two
KeyBank has promoted Wendy Fanello to Assistant Vice President and Key Client Relations Leader at the Ferndale KeyCenter. In her new role, Fanello will provide client service and operations leadership to ensure that all Ferndale KeyCenter team members are continually providing distinctive quality service. A graduate of Western Washington University, Fanello has been with KeyBank since 1990.
Debbie Hogue was promoted to Assistant Vice President and Relationship Manager at the Bellingham KeyCenter. Hogue, who recently completed her Business Banking certification, will be responsible for bringing in new client relationships and for managing existing Key clients. Hogue attended Bellingham Technical College and Whatcom Community College and has been employed with KeyBank since 1990.

Twedt marks milestone
For the fourth consecutive year, Paul Twedt, Managing Director with The Northwest Washington Group, of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, has qualified for membership in the Million Dollar Roundtable, an international, independent association of nearly 19,000 leading life insurance producers. It’s a career milestone that indicates sales and service achievement. Members must meet strict ethical and production requirements to qualify.
Twedt has been associated with Northwestern Mutual since 1992. He has earned his Chartered Life Underwriter designation and is currently completing his Chartered Financial Consultant designation.

North Coast announces changes
Linda Lyons, former manager of the Bellingham branch, is the new manager of the Ferndale branch. Lyons has over 20 years of credit union experience.
Jill Babbit has accepted the position of manager for the Bellingham branch. Former assistant branch manager since October 2003, she has over 12 years of banking experience and is focused on developing internal systems designed to increase efficiencies and member satisfaction.

Whidbey Island Bank welcomes, promotes
Susie Benner has joined Whidbey Island Bank as Vice President and Private Banking Officer in Bellingham
Benner, a 35-year banking veteran, including five years as a Private Banking Officer at Key Bank, will be one of two individuals responsible for developing Whidbey Island Bank’s Private Banking portfolio in Whatcom County. She attended the University of Washington.
Jo Dallas has been promoted to Vice President and Real Estate Sales Manager.
With 20 years of bank management, real estate, and lending experience, Dallas will be responsible for providing sales support, training, development and direction to Whidbey Island Bank’s Real Estate Loan Officers.
Prior to joining Whidbey Island Bank, Dallas was employed by Cascade Bank, where she held several positions, including Senior Loan Officer and Bellingham Loan Center Manager.

Horizon Bank makes several changes
Horizon Bank has announced the promotion of five employees to assistant vice president and one employee to senior vice president as approved at the March Board of Directors meeting.
Jane Van Voorst has been promoted to Senior Vice President. In December 2003, Van Voorst was promoted to Retail Banking Manager and now oversees all aspects of retail sales development, working directly with the retail branch staff and management. Van Voorst has been with Horizon Bank since May 2002 overseeing the Consumer Lending division of the Bank
Kim Crook, Mortgage Lending Officer, has been promoted to Assistant Vice President. Crook has been on the Horizon team since 1991 and is a life-long Skagit Valley resident. With her new title, Crook will continue to work closely with commercial lenders, and other Horizon Bank staff to enhance customer relationships with the Bank.
David Latham, Mortgage Lending Officer, has been promoted to assistant vice president. With more than 15 years experience in Mortgage Lending, Financial Planning and Business Management, Latham brings a wealth of knowledge to the Bank. He has a BA in Business Administration from the University of Washington and is a graduate of Mykut Real Estate School.
Josh Martin, Mortgage Lending Officer, has been promoted to Assistant Vice President. As a life-long resident of Whatcom County, Martin brings a valuable local perspective to mortgage lending. He has spent the last two years at Horizon Bank.
Patty Quanz, Retail Office Manager at Ferndale, has been promoted to Assistant Vice President. Quanz brings over 20 years of experience in a variety of banking positions. Quanz has been with Horizon for three years and recently lead her team to Office of the Quarter. Her specialties are Consumer Lending and Community Business Banking. Quanz is a Ferndale Chamber of Commerce Board Member.
Tula Trames, Mortgage Lending Officer, has been promoted to Assistant Vice President. Bellingham native Trames is a graduate of the University of Washington and has been with Horizon Bank for 20 years. She has experience as a licensed realtor, a property manager, and with the Whatcom County Housing Authority.

Madrona adds pediatrician
Dr. Daniel Kowals recently joined Madrona Medical Group.
Before joining Madrona, Dr. Kowals practiced as a Staff Pediatrician at Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro, Ore. Dr. Kowals received his doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1996. He began a residency in family medicine at the University of Michigan in 1996, switching after two years to pediatric medicine. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in 1998.
Dr. Kowals recently moved to Bellingham where he previously had resided while attending Western Washington University, where he received his BA in Psychology.

Trainer joins Bellingham Athletic Club
Peter McConnell, current Masters Surfboat Crew World Champion, former co-host of Body Talk a radio show on KGMI, graduate from the Paul Chek institute for Nutrition and Lifestyle Coaching and ISSA certified is now a trainer at Bellingham Athletic Club.
McConnell intends to primarily focus on Nutrition, Lifestyle Coaching, Golf Conditioning, and Personal Training.

Business Development Center adds two
The Small Business Development Center at Western Washington University recently added two specialists.
Sherri Daymon is the new rural business development specialist. This outreach position is funded through the Port of Bellingham and Western to help strengthen small businesses in outlying communities and foster economic vitality throughout Whatcom County.
Daymon has a master’s in business administration from Western Washington University and previously worked at Brown & Cole Stores as the manager of planning and budgeting. She also has worked as a management consultant for the building industry, as an information systems instructor at Western Washington University and as an assistant store manager with a local paper retailer.
Rex Rhoades has been hired as the new Native American Business Development specialist. Rhoades’ new duties include managing the Native American Entrepreneurial Outreach Program in partnership with the Small Business Development Center and Northwest Indian College. The NAEOP works with the Lummi, Nooksack, Upper Skagit, Tulalip, Swinomish, Sauk-Suiattle, Stillaguamish and Samish tribes. Rhoades will be visiting each tribe monthly to offer on-site technical assistance and counseling to individuals who want to start their own businesses and to existing business owners. He will also assist in teaching classes on business topics at Northwest Indian College.
Rhoades has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Washington University. He has worked as the program manager for the initial Tribal BusinessLINC program and as the economic development director for the Lummi Indian Business Council. He also acted as a liaison with the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians regarding ferry service in the Puget Sound region.
Rhoades currently serves as the secretary, treasurer and council member for the Chinook Indian Tribe Southwest Washington.

Muscutt now at Faber Brothers
Mitch Muscutt, licensed architect since 1992 has joined the design team at Faber Brothers Construction. A lifetime Whatcom County resident Mitch brings over 30 years of design experience to assist the commercial and residential construction firm.

Westerhof at Lynden Manor Assisted Living Community
Amy Westerhof joined Lynden Manor as the new director of resident relations. A Lynden native and lifelong Whatcom County resident, Westerhof graduated from Lynden High, and attended Whatcom Community College.
