People on the Move Bank NorthWest makes changes Bank NorthWest added three lenders, promoted two and relocated another in their commercial and residential real estate loan center. Donna Olney is now assistant vice president, commercial real estate lending. She has 14 years of experience in banking, including experience as assistant credit administrator, credit analyst and small business lender. She will help developers with commercial transactions. Rita Nelson joined the bank as assistant vice president, real estate training and development. She started her career in 1986 and has worked in many aspects of residential lending. Nelson’s job will be to expand Bank NorthWest’s mortgage operation to include processing and closing loans for the Bank of the Pacific, which Bank NorthWest acquired in October. Drew Wilkens is a residential real estate representative. He is a Western Washington University graduate and began his mortgage lending career in 2001. Wilkens most recently served as branch manager of Ameriquest Mortgage. Rick Cornelius and Dave Oligschlager were promoted to senior residential real estate loan representatives. Cornelius has been in residential real estate since 1996 and joined Bank NorthWest in 2002. Oligschlager has eight years of experience in mortgage lending and also joined Bank NorthWest in 2002. Both Cornelius and Oligschlager will now serve as team leaders in the bank’s real estate loan division. Caitlin Walker will now work as a residential real estate loan representative at Bank NorthWest’s Lynden branch. She joined Bank NorthWest last year, bringing five years of mortgage lending experience.
John L. Scott adds two agents John L. Scott’s Bellingham office recently added two new agents. John Cottrell comes to the office after being self-employed for the past 20 years. Shari Draper is also a new agent. She has a background in sales and professional photography. Draper is a graduate of San Jose State University.
Peterson joins 542 East Productions Mike Peterson joined 542 East Productions as sales, marketing, advertising and public relations director. He recently graduated with a marketing degree from Montana State University. Peterson will develop and implement sales and marketing strategies for the company and will handle all aspects of public relations.
Hamner to manage the Skeleton Brent Hamner is the new condo association manager for Fairhaven Square Condominiums, a housing project now located in the Fairhaven building formerly known as the Skeleton. He owns Best Real Estate Management. Hamner also manages other developments including the Heights at Cordata, Calmor Cove Club, and Belleau Woods.
Cole addresses corporate directors Craig Cole, President and CEO of Brown and Cole Stores, recently addressed the Seattle-Northwest chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors on corporate ethics. His presentation focused on why strong corporate values mean mere legal compliance is not enough. Instead, organizations should perform voluntarily above the legal standards. Cole suggested executives ask how their activities would look on the front page of a newspaper.
Newlight to manage Morgan Stanley J. Michael Newlight was named branch manager of Morgan Stanley’s Bellingham office. He has lived in Bellingham since 1976. Newlight has an undergraduate degree from Oakland University and has done graduate work in economics at Western Washington University.
YMCA adds development director Gennie Clawson is now development director at the Whatcom Family YMCA. Clawson will be responsible for fundraising with an emphasis on the Heritage Club, a group who have either made an outright gift or a planned gift to the YMCA’s endowment fund. She has many years of experience in fundraising and marketing, both in Bellingham and Los Angeles.
Fallquist joins law firm Chmelik, Sitkin and Davis, a Bellingham law firm, welcomed Stephen R. Fallquist to the firm. He will work with the business transaction and commercial litigation group and will be involved in business and property transactions, construction issues and litigation. Fallquist has an undergraduate degree from Whitman College and earned his law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law. He was an associate attorney with the firm of Halverson and Applegate in Yakima.
Gillespie becomes fraud examiner Carlye Gillespie, a member of the accounting firm the Archer Group, passed the certified fraud examiner test. She is now qualified to work on cases that involve allegations of fraud, fraud detection and deterrence.
Davis earns real estate designation Bryant Davis recently earned an accredited buyer representative designation. He joined RE/MAX Whatcom County just over one year ago. Before embarking on a real estate career, Davis worked as a sales executive with Emerald Bay Events and was a chef at Dirty Dan Harris, the Inn at Semiahmoo, and the Oyster Creek Inn.
Western adds media coordinator, director Paul Cocke became Western Washington University’s media coordinator last month. He comes to the university from the Anacortes American where he served as news editor since 2001. At the American, he received many professional awards. Cocke has an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and completed a master’s degree in journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. From 1989 until 1993 he was assistant state editor at the Greenville News in South Carolina. Tanya Rowe moves to the assistant director position from her current job as media coordinator. She joined the Office of University Communications in 1999. Rowe was the Bellingham Herald’s writer of the year in 1998. She is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University, has a master’s degree in creative writing from Western Washington University, and is currently working on her Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia.
Borders elected building industry president Audrey Borders was elected president of the Building Industry Association of Whatcom County. She is the association’s first woman president. Borders owns Borders and Son Quality Roofing and holds a general contractor’s license. She won the builder of the year award in 1999 and has served on the association’s board of directors.
McClintock joins accounting firm Beverly McClintock is administrative assistant with Varner, Sytsma and Herndon, CPAs. McClintock has extensive experience in tax processing and office administration.
North Coast makes appointments North Coast Credit Union recently appointed Mike Haslip to its board of directors. He has been a credit union member for 27 years. Haslip joined the Blaine police department in 1976, was appointed deputy police chief in 1996 and became chief of police in 2003. Doug Scholten is now serving on the Credit Union’s supervisory committee. He joined the credit union in 1968. Scholten has been active in land surveying for 35 years and is employed by Pacific Survey and Engineering.
Brennick joins university foundation Daryl Brennick joined Trinity Western University’s US Foundation last month. Brennick served one term as mayor of Lynden and two terms as mayor of Marysville. He also spent nearly 40 years in management at the Chevron Corporation. Trinity Western University’s US Foundation was formed in 1980 and allows the Langley, BC based university to enter charitable agreements not available in Canada.
Kassing joins Sterling Life Gib Kassing is now senior manager of sales and marketing administration for the Sterling Life Insurance Company. Kassing has an undergraduate degree in business administration from Texas Tech University and experience in sales, marketing and training administration.
