Bothman takes top pizza award Daniel Bothman, co-owner of La Fiamma Wood Fire Pizza, won the pizza of the year award at the International Pizza Expo. It’s the top recipe award at the gathering of pizza professionals, held in Las Vegas and sponsored by Pizza Today magazine. Bothman created the Finn Pizza out of shrimp, pesto, artichoke hearts and cheese. He won a cash prize of $1,500 and scholarships for him and four associates to attend a professional pizza production seminar at the American Baking Institute in Manhattan.
Bellis Fair welcomes interns Bellis Fair mall is hosting two interns. Christina Stone will assist with daily marketing operations, such as new store openings and mall-wide events. She was instrumental in the Great Northwest Travel Show in April. Stone is from West Seattle and will graduate this month with a bachelor’s degree in business, with a marketing concentration. Casey Holde is helping with coming events and creating sponsorship portfolios to foster marketing partnerships for mall amenities and programs. She is from Kelso and will graduate this month with a marketing degree with a minor in economics. Internships are part of a national Prodigies program, under which interns work with marketing staff at General Growth Properties malls across the country.
Joffrion elected head of archivist group Elizabeth Joffrion, head archivist at the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies at Western Washington University, was elected vice president/president elect of the Northwest Archivists Association. The NWA is the professional organization for archivists and others interested in preserving and using historical material related to the Pacific Northwest. Joffrion joined WWU in 1999. She has a Master’s degree in history and archives from the University of New Orleans and a Master’s degree in library and information studies from the University of Maryland. Before coming to WWU, she worked at the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian.
Realtors win recognitions Two members of the Whatcom County Association of Realtors won state awards last month. Allen Salisbury, loan officer at Security 1st Mortgage, won for outstanding service to the real estate industry. He has over nine years experience and is active in the community, including volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. Salisbury is also a certified Master Mechanic, adjunct faculty at Bellingham Technical College and teaches Running Start. Sue Stremler was named realtor association executive officer of the year for Washington State. Stremler won the inaugural award, given for “bringing credit to association management through personal involvement.” Professionally, Stremler has been involved in the association’s Code of Ethics, education programs and in arbitration proceedings. She serves on the BTC scholarship selection committee and is a member of Peace Arch chapter of American Business Women. Two other realtors won local awards. Shannon Rembert, marketing representative with Whatcom Land Title, won the Whatcom Association of Realtors first quarter affiliate award. She was selected by the membership for her outstanding contribution to the association. Rembert is also active with Habitat for Humanity. Mark Brown, agent at Windermere Real Estate, was named realtor of the first quarter. He was cited for his service to the association since 1999. Brown is active in the association’s political and governmental affairs efforts aimed at affordable housing, taxes and fair housing.
Chronister makes club Stan Chronister of Mutual of Omaha earned the company’s Honor Club. He ranked 18th out of all the company’s agents in the United States in the number of policies written and placed.
Illustrator wins architecture award Rick Mullen, Bellingham illustrator, won an award of excellence and was included in the American Society of Architectural Illustrator’s 18th annual Architecture in Perspective exhibition. His entry was a drawing of a preliminary design of the Lynnwood Convention Center by the Zervas Group. The initial display is at the ASAI convention in Pasadena in October and will travel throughout the United States and be on display at the American Institute of Architects convention.
Vander Yacht partners with surveyor Jeff Vander Yacht was promoted at Pacific Surveying and Engineering to a new partner. He originally joined PSE two years ago as engineering manager. Vander Yacht has a degree in civil engineering from the University of Portland and became a licensed professional engineer in January 2001. He was also co-valedictorian of his Lynden High School graduating class. Vander Yacht has worked on include the upgrade to Main Street and the Interstate 5 interchange in Ferndale, the Yew Street reconstruction, and various developments around the Barkley District.
Northwest Computer adds multiple staff Northwest Computer Supplies added three new staff recently. Evan Jeffries was promoted to service department manager. He has been with Northwest Computer Supplies since 1999, working in both the service department and manufacturing division. Chris Dodge joined the customer service team. A graduate of the University of Washington, Dodge will help with both local and national clients. Ethan D’Onofrio is now retail operations manager. He joined the company in 1995 and has managed the technical services department. Skip Cronck was promoted to purchasing agent. He has been with the company since 2002 and is a graduate of Malaspina University College in Nanaimo, BC.
Twedt joins roundtable Paul Twedt, of the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, qualified for the Million Dollar Roundtable. The MDR is an association of almost 19,000 life insurance producers. Members join by meeting production and ethical standards.
Bennett to lead professional women Cyndi Bennett was elected president of the Womens’ Professional Network. Bennett is founder of Northern Design and has more than thirteen years experience in marketing, art direction and technical development. She has a master’s degree in marketing and technology management.
Smith achieves fellowship J. Bruce Smith, head of Trust and Estate department at Brett & Daughert, has been admitted as a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. The ACTEC is a professional association consisting of 2,700 trust and estate lawyers in the United States.
John L. Scott adds three John L. Scott Real Estate in Bellingham added two new agents. Crystal Post joined the office as a brand new real estate agent. She attended Western Washington University. Nick Childers is also a new real estate professional. He retired from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s department this year. Paul Balzotti is the third brand new agent to join John L. Scott. He has a business degree from Whatcom Community College and has a sales background.
Logghe promoted by Banner Bank Jim Logghe was promoted to senior vice president and residential loan production manager for Banner Bank. He will supervise 1-4 family permanent and custom residential construction throughout the Banner Bank franchise. Logghe joined Banner when the bank acquired Whatcom State Bank. He is a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School and Western Washington University.
3D names project co-coordinator Kim McAdams was made project coordinator at 3D Computer. It’s a newly created position. McAdams joined 3D in 1995 and has served as materials supervisor, purchasing agent and onsite technician coordinator.
McCallum joins architecture firm Stewart & King Partnership, a Bellingham architecture firm, hired Sunny McCallum as office manager. She has five years experience in the construction industry and a background in business development and marketing. McCallum is a Western Washington University graduate and has lived in Bellingham for more than eight years.
Shirley joins dentist office Anja Shirley is a new front desk administrator at Dr. Faith Bult’s office. Shirley is the second administrator and works at Anthony’s Restaurant.
Building industry group adds two The Building Industry Association of Whatcom County added two new staffers. Nick Hartrich is the new events coordinator. He is a Western Washington University graduate and is active in the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee, the Mother Baby Center and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Mary Dickinson is the new government affairs director. She is a member of the Washington State bar and is a graduate of the University of Oregon School of Law. Dickinson will represent the BIAWC at government meetings and hearings.
Vega named planning director Jorge Vega was named planning director for the city of Bellingham. He had been interim director since February. He came to the city to join the city attorney’s office, but he arrived at the same time as Patricia Decker was appointed to the Waterfront Futures Group. Vega has more than 13 years experience as an attorney in private practice. He is a graduate of Harvard Law and the University of Texas at San Antonio, and recently served for seven years as a high-level official in the Texas attorney general’s office.
